Dr. Tony Barbis is an Associate Teaching Professor in MU’s College of Education Department of Learning, Teaching & Curriculum, where he has served as the  Workforce Education Area Coordinator since 2003. Barbis earned a BA in Broadcast Communications in 1986, a Master of Education in Business Education in 1997, and a Ph.D. in Career and Technical Education with an emphasis in Human Resource Education in 2003, all from the University of Missouri-Columbia. Prior to his time with the College of Education, Dr. Barbis spent 10 years in management positions in the private sector.  He subsequently served as the Workforce Development Coordinator for the Columbia Chamber of Commerce, as a labor market researcher with the Research Institute for Technical Education and Workforce Development, as the Project Director for a federal Welfare-to-Work grant, and as Senior Continuing Education Coordinator for the Missouri Training Institute. Dr. Barbis developed and coordinates the online Master of Education in Career and Technical Education program and the online Bachelor Educational Studies degree program. He designs and teaches several courses in various business and management topics, as well as courses in curriculum design, measurement and evaluation, and teaching methods.  He has received several grants to develop online courses and programs, and most recently has been assisting an area public school district transform the traditional high school and career center into six career academies.
