Dong Xu is a James C. Dowell Professor of Computer Science Department, with appointments in the Christopher S. Bond Life Sciences Center and the Informatics Institute at the University of Missouri-Columbia. He obtained his PhD from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign in 1995 and did two years of postdoctoral work at the US National Cancer Institute. He was a Staff Scientist at Oak Ridge National Laboratory until 2003 before joining the University of Missouri. Since January 2007, he has been serving as Chair of Computer Science Department. His research includes protein structure prediction, high-throughput biological data analyses, and in silico studies of plants, microbes, and cancers. He has published more than 230 papers. His work has been funded by DOE, NSF, USDA, NIH, US Army, United Soybean Board, Missouri Soybean Merchandising Council, Missouri Life Science Trust Fund, Monsanto Research Fund, Cerner Corporation, and National Center for Soybean Biotechnology. He is a recipient of 2001 R&D 100 Award, 2003 Federal Laboratory Consortium’s Award of Excellence in Technology Transfer, and 2010 Outstanding Achievement Award from International Society of Intelligent Biological Medicine.
