Biography

Shenk is a cultural anthropologist whose research combines evolutionary, economic and demographic approaches to human behavior. She uses both quantitative and qualitative methods to investigate the effects of marriage, family, inheritance and kinship practices on parental investment and fertility. She has conducted field research on the economics of marriage and parental investment in urban South India, and is currently working on an NSF-funded project comparing multiple causes of rapid fertility decline in rural Bangladesh.
