Biography

Johnson, Phil

Dr. Philip Johnson is a board-certified specialist in the discipline of equine medicine and surgery, as recognized by both the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine and the European College of Equine Internal Medicine. He graduated with his veterinary degree from the University of Bristol School of Veterinary Medicine in 1981 (with first class honors). Johnson has been a member of the faculty at the University of Missouri’s College of Veterinary Medicine since 1991 where his veterinary clinical duties include the provision of hospital-level care for horses and foals in referred from Missouri and the adjacent states. In addition to the provision of specialist veterinary care, he is also responsible for teaching students of veterinary medicine, enrolled in the College’s DVM degree program and house officers seeking post-DVM specialty training in the various equine clinical specialities. Johnson’s research interests include all aspects of equine internal medicine, but with special emphasis on inflammation, extracellular matrix biology, endocrine diseases and equine laminitis. Johnson was recently inducted into the International Equine Veterinary Hall of Fame in recognition of his work with equine laminitis.
