Biography

Johnson, Rebecca 1

Rebecca Johnson, an associate professor in the Department of Veterinary Medicine and Surgery in the MU College of Veterinary Medicine, is the director of the Research Center on Human Animal Interaction (ReCHAI) and the Millsap professor of gerontological nursing at the MU Sinclair School of Nursing. She is widely known for her research on relocation of older adults and is also working in the area of the human/animal bond conducting studies pertaining to engaging humans and animals together in creative ways to facilitate health in both. In 2000, she was invited to meet with the U.S. Surgeon General to acquaint him with research on the role of animals in promoting human health and well-being in conjunction with VET ONE, an organization dedicated to promoting the human/animal bond. In 2007, she was inducted into the American Academy of Nursing, the highest honor in academic nursing.
