Areas of Expertise



Thomas Johnson’s research areas include rural economic development, fiscal and economic impact analysis, local government finance, energy economics and transportation economics. Dr. Johnson has studied the role of education, health care, infrastructure, and industrial development policies, in rural development in Canada, United States and Europe. Recent research has focused on the economic consequences of climate change, strategies for increasing the resilience of water distribution systems, life-cycle analyses of power generation systems, and distributed energy.
